The Kalamazoo Promise, a pioneering new scholarship program for graduates of Kalamazoo 's public schools funded by anonymous donors, has Michigan colleges competing for the prospective students. Western Michigan is offering four years of free room and board to 2006 grads, while Wayne State will give them a 50 percent discount.
